5 Months Old
Holy Cow~ Sophie is 5 months old!
*Sophie is still napping throughout the day really well! Her first morning nap is by far the longest and she can usually sleep about an hour to an hour and a half during her other naps. We still swaddle her when she goes down to sleep and she absolutely loves it.
*She does great at night! I hardly have to get up with her at all these days.
*We are still working on sitting up. She is going longer periods of time and starting to get stable with less support from us or other props.
*She kicks, talks, and scoots up a storm when she is on her stomach. She can straighten her arms and push up onto her hands (well... fists)! When she is on her belly she can roll over onto her back and also turn to face different directions.
*We have the HAPPIEST little girl in the world!
*Sophie has found her toes!!! She enjoys grabbing them and occasionally she tries to put them in her mouth.
*We have introduced her to rice cereal and now we are going to start veggies. I have made her sweet potatoes and butternut squash to try first. Daddy loves to feed Sophie her solids!
*Sophie also LOVES Lucy! She enjoys watching her run around the house and pets her whenever Lucy gets close enough to her. It is so funny to watch those two together!
*Our big girl is wearing a size 3 in diapers and wearing 6 month clothes. However, she can still fit into 3-6 month onsies and 3 month dresses!
*Last but not least.... Soph's hair is starting to grow!!! She is even loosing the fuzzy hair on her cute little ears. :)
We just love every minute with this little girl! She is truly a gift from God and we feel so blessed to be her parents!
Suns Scrimmage
Josh is a HUGE Phoenix Suns fan and totally excited that the season is starting. So, on Saturday we had a fun family outing to to the US Airways Center for the Suns' preseason scrimmage. It was free to the public and not a lot of people attended so it was the perfect atmosphere for Soph. She was mesmerized by the lights, flashing screens, and people. Since we all enjoyed it so much we have decided to make this a family tradition.

Fall Festival at Josh's School
Friday night, Josh had a "scare fair" at his school. The teachers set up festive booths in the parking lot for the families of the school and neighborhood to enjoy. Students are allowed to dress up in their Halloween costumes so we decided to dress Sophie up too!

Best Friends
In preschool, I met my friend Rianne. She and I were best friends as kids and spent so much time together playing school, dancing, and hanging out. Rianne moved when we were in first grade but we have always kept in touch. It is such a blessing to have a friend that shares many of the same beliefs and passions. Rianne and I have always wanted to be teachers as kids and now we are living our dream. We also both have birthdays in August, share a love for dance, married pastor's kids, and had beautiful daughters on the same day!
Through out our pregnancies, we called and texted each other to talk about all of the exciting changes that we were going through. Amazingly enough we both were going to have girls! Rianne's due date was around May 16th and her little one decided to hangout in her mommy's belly for a bit longer. On May 20st, when our doctor told us that I was in labor and had to go to the hospital, I reluctantly called Rianne to tell her my news. I felt horrible because her baby was late and Soph was about 2 weeks early. While in the hospital I got a text that Rianne has also gone into labor. I gave birth to Sophie Lee at 3:41am on May 21st and twelve hours and a minute later Rianne gave birth to Lyla Louise. The girls weight was an ounce different and Sophie was half an inch longer.
On Wednesday, we finally got to meet Miss Lyla! It was so fun seeing our girls together. It is CRAZY how much bigger Sophie is than Lyla. We sat the girls together and they instantly wanted to touch each other. Sophie was constantly trying to get Lyla's little fingers or arm into her mouth. We spent most of our time together just hanging out, catching up on life, playing with our girls, and taking LOTS of pictures. Sophie and Lyla even got to celebrate turning 5 months old together! I hope one day they can have a friendship as strong as mine and Riannes.

Rolling Over
I think it was a day or two after I posted Sophie's 4 month update that she started rolling over. She had done it a couple times before but I think this time she has finally gotten the hang of it. Here is a cute clip of Soph doing her thing...

Sophie's First Vacation
Last weekend, we packed up and headed north to enjoy the cooler weather and some family fun. Our first stop was the Prescott City Square. They were having an Arts and Craft show so we were able to walk around a bit and let Sophie enjoy the outdoors. Since she was born at the beginning of the summer, the weather has been scorching and we could never really take her out. However, the weather in Prescott was beautiful! After our stroll around the square we let Soph experience laying in the grass... it was so cute!!!
A little farther north was a fun little pumpkin farm in Chino Valley. We stayed long enough to get a couple pumpkins and take some cute pictures of our little pumpkin.
Once we made it to Flagstaff, we checked into our hotel and went to have dinner with the sweet Stephanie Barber. She made a wonderful meal and it was nice to relax and spend time in her cute apartment.
Isn't Sophie an adorable Lumberjack?!?!
It was much cooler during the night up north so our little cutie had to wear her beanie to bed. We loved bundling her up in her winter clothes!
On Monday, we drove to Sedona (one of our favorite places in AZ) and took Sophie on her first hike, West Fork. The first half of the hike, Sophie hung out in the carrier facing outwards to check out the beautiful scenery. After about an hour and a half of seeing all the sights, Sophie got a little sleepy. So we flipped her around after lunch and she crashed. She slept the rest of the hike and got a lot of attention from the other hikers passing by. According to a man that had obviously hiked this trail before we had walked about 3 miles into the canyon and therefore hiked about 6 miles total! It was so nice to be outside and enjoy the fresh air. Soph girl was a TROOPER and so was her daddy for carrying her the whole way! Josh jokes that this is probably the easiest hike Sophie will ever take! After our hike, we went to a lookout near the Sedona airport and got a couple more pictures. We also attempted to walk around the main street but we were wiped out from our trek along the creek that we decided to head back to Flag.
On Tuesday morning we packed up and headed back home. Sophie surprised us both and slept the whole way. We are so blessed to have such a happy baby and a great traveler!

Sick Little Pumpkin
On Thursday, September 30th, Sophie woke up VERY early coughing and sneezing. We knew something wasn't right since she had been getting up frequently throughout the night, whimpering and needing me to put her paci back in. Josh and I decided to call the doctor that morning and at 9am I took her in. I couldn't believe when her doctor said she had a little ear infection. She wasn't too fussy or didn't seem to be in a lot of pain (thank goodness) so I was surprised that she had an infection. She has been taking her medicine like a champ and slowly getting better. Meanwhile, Josh and I are suffering from colds. It is no fun being sick but we are motivated to get well quickly because Josh has next week off!
