Sophie's First Week!

This week Sophie has begun to get adjusted to life here at home. She has been nursing well and she is slowly beginning to get into a normal routine. She spends most of her time asleep but we have had many opportunities to catch her with her beautiful eyes open. Sophie had her first doctors appointment on Wednesday. Her doctor is actually the same pediatrician Josh went to when he was younger. At her appointment she weighed 6 pounds and 14 ounces and measured 20 and a half inches. Our doctor told us that her coloring is looking good and that she is very healthy. Like we saw in all of the ultrasound pictures she loves to keep her hands by her face. She even holds onto her ear when she eats... its so stinkin' cute!

It has been so nice to have our family and friends come over and visit us this past week. We have appreciated the delicious meals our friends have prepared and more importantly enjoyed the company we have had.

Our story!

On Monday, May 17, I had an appointment with Dr Busch. He told me that everything looked good, I was 4 cm dilated and that Sophie could be here at any time. Since I had been feeling so good I continued working until Thursday, May 20th, I got a phone call during class from my doctor. He was surprised that Sophie was still cooking and afraid that she might sneak out without me knowing it. So, he asked me to visit him that afternoon for a quick check. After the school bell rang, I tried to make a few last preparations for a sub (just in case), gathered my things, picked up Josh, and headed to see Dr. Busch. He told me that I was 5cm dialated, in labor, and to get to the hospital. Josh and I couldn't believe it because I hadn't been feeling contractions! At 4pm, Josh and I quickly ran home to pack our bag and then left to get checked into the hospital. By 6pm, I was hanging out in our room and 6cm dialated. Surprisingly, I still was not really feeling contractions. Even the nurses were surprised because I was laughing and completely relaxed during "labor". Around 9pm, they gave me pitocin because my contractions were not progressing. An hour later the nurse informed me that the pitocin wasn't working the way they wanted it to so at around 10pm my doctor came in and broke my water. Once my water had been broken, I finally began to feel the contractions. I did my best to breathe through them for about 45 minutes, however around 11pm I gave up and got an epidural. We had been at work all day we were exhausted by that point and we also knew that we still had a lot of work to do, so we tried to relax. As we were waiting for me to progress, my blood pressure started to drop and I had to go on oxygen up until it was time to push. Unfortunately, the epidural lowered my blood pressure to much so I had to be on oxygen until it was time to push. Finally, 1am rolled around and I got the a-okay to start pushing. I labored with our mothers and Josh by my side until 3:41am... at that moment we met our daughter, Sophie Lee Henderson, for the first time. She is the most precious little girl and we feel so blessed to have such a happy healthy baby.

Almost 37 Weeks...

and everything is going well! Since I have gestational diabetes we go to have Non Stress Tests and Biophysical Profile Ultrasounds every week along with our regular doctors visits. According to the tests and ultrasounds, Sophie is growing wonderfully and doing all of the things that she is supposed to be doing. Our doctor is very happy with our progress and has even predicted that she will be here soon. What do you think? When will our little girl get here? Leave a message and let us know what YOU think!

Sophie's 34 and 35 Week Photo Shoot

The ultrasound techs have done a great job capturing some adorable shots of Sophie these past couple weeks. Soph finds a lot of comfort in keeping her hands and arms close to her face so we have lots of cute pictures with her pudgy fingers as well. Check out the little dimples on her knuckles!
34 weeks! Look at those adorable lips!

Sophie's Room

Taa-Daa! Her room is just about complete!! We have a couple finishing touches to add to her room but over all we are very pleased with the way it has turned out.

Numero Cuatro

My mom and sister threw a beautiful shower for me last weekend. They worked hard all week to prepare for the shower by making the cookies, the cake, the delicious lunch, and fun games. I had so much fun spending time with all of the guests and felt completely spoiled by all the thought that people put into the gifts they got us.

Thank you to everyone who has been so supportive during these past eight almost nine months. We are in the home stretch now and are excited for Sophie's arrival. She doesn't know it yet but she has a lot of wonderful people in her life... Our family is so blessed!
